BLESSING THE LORD

All Your works shall give thanks to You, O LORD, and Your godly ones shall bless You. They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your power.
Psalm 145:10-11

It is wonderful to receive a blessing, isn't it? When someone does something out of the ordinary to enrich your life and encourage your heart, doesn't that just make your day?

When I became a pastor, I was encouraged by a friend of mine to save all the good letters and emails. He told me, "Put those in an encouragement file. When you are down and feeling low, you can read those letters and be uplifted and strengthened to keep on trucking." I have been faithful to do just that.

Here is one of those "good" emails that really encouraged me:

I just wanted to take the time and speak for many to say that your message on television makes a difference. It is good to see the Word being spread through all means possible. I was raised by a great Christian family and have kept the faith. Although I am a member of another church and different denomination, I am faithful to watch your television message.

Your messages are iced tea on a summer day. In my line of work (law enforcement), it is easy to be overwhelmed by the evil in the world, but hearing the Scripture reminds me of how greatly blessed we are. I hope that this email message reaches you personally, because YOU are making a difference in people's lives. Not just spreading the Word of God to unbelievers, but uplifting the spirits of believers. Thank you for your service to Lord. May God bless you and your family.

Without a doubt, that email BLESSED my life!! It was God's way of reminding me that my "toil is not in vain in the Lord" (1 Cor. 15:58).

HOW CAN YOU AND I BLESS GOD?

Just as we can bless people - with encouraging words, gifts of love and acts of service -we can also bless God. Can you imagine... little old you and little old me actually blessing the heart of Almighty God? It is true! The Bible says we can do it... but how?

There are many ways to bless God bring a smile to His face:

  1. Thanking Him and praising Him for the good AND THE BAD (1 Thes. 5:18).
  2. Telling Him, with all your heart, that you really love Him (Jn. 21:15-17). What Father is not blessed when his children tell him that?
  3. When tempted with evil, choosing to follow Jesus and obey Him instead (Ps. 119:128).
  4. Giving to His kingdom's work from a cheerful, grateful heart (2 Cor. 9:7).
  5. Telling people about Jesus and bragging on His greatness. (Acts 1:8)
  6. Being wise and making wise decisions (Prov. 23:15-16).

Or minds cannot comprehend the great love He has for us. How awesome to think we can "make His day" so to speak when we do the things that bless His heart!

Make it your goal to bless the Lord every single day of your life! You will be so glad that you did.

Love,
