THE TRAGEDY OF UNCASHED CHECKS

For as many as may be the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also by Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.
2 Corinthians 1:20

When I was a kid, I did not really understand how a check worked. I just viewed it as cash, and I would keep it in my drawer until I needed it. Someone told me one day, "Hey Jeff, that is not a wise move. That check is not good indefinitely. You need to cash it while the cashing is still good."

Have you ever held on to a check too long only to discover it was no longer good? That is an unpleasant experience. When that happens, I want to put on the dunce cap and sit in the corner. UGH! How could I have been so lazy and so foolish?

GOD'S CHECKS

Have you ever stopped to realize this truth: "the Bible is a giant checkbook of promises"? God has made us a ton of promises. And, according to 2 Corinthians 1:20, Jesus has signed every single one of them. His sacrifice on the cross validated all the promises of God that have been given to us. But why do so many of God's promises go uncashed?

Do God's promises go uncashed because He does not have the means to pay and sufficiently cover His promises? Certainly not! God's promises so often go uncashed in our lives because you and I fail to take those checks to heaven's bank and cash them!

WHERE IS YOUR AMEN?

Look at that verse again in 2 Corinthians 1:20: "For as many as may be the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also by Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us." The way you cash God's promise checks is by endorsing the back of the check with your AMEN… with your "let it be so."

We cash the promise checks when we say to God, "Lord Your word has promised me peace in the midst of my storm (Philippians 4:6-7), and I am here to cash that promise. I say, ‘Let it be so' in my life, just as You have promised me.'" My friend, God LOVES it when we believe Him enough to endorse His promises and take them to heaven's bank for cashing.

FINDING PROMISES

Let me encourage you as I encourage myself, take time every day to read God's Word and claim His promises for your life. Remember the words of Peter on the day of Pentecost, "For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself" (Acts 2:39). Claiming promises is simply another way of saying you choose to walk by faith and not by sight. And walking by faith is what pleases God (Hebrews 11:6). Why not start TODAY?
